The most basic type of butterfly valve is the concentric Butterfly Valve also known as a resilient seated butterfly valve. In this valve the fluid is centered to the middle part of the bore of the pipe. There is a rubber seat which relies on the main disc of the valve that has a high level of contact between the seat and pipe giving a complete tight seal. In this concentric butterfly valve the disc comes in contact with the seat even before completing the 90 degree rotation.
The offset butterfly valve is specially designed to withstand the high pressure faced in the petroleum and power industries. This offset type disc butterfly valve is further divided into two types: Double offset disc butterfly valve and triple offset butterfly valve.
Double Offset Disc Butterfly Valve: In this valve there are two stem offsets preset from the center part. The first offset is at the axis of the shaft behind the centerline of the disc to the seat and the second one is eccentric to the center of the pipe. This kind of butterfly valve is majorly used in the industries like chemical, oil and gas, power plants, treatment plants, etc.
